The Research Clusters provide thematic categories through which ISS and partnering academic staff work collaboratively on research and projects. While development studies includes a variety of focal specializations, lateral research across these specializations allows for a more flexible approach to different topics.

Cross-cutting themes

Alongside the four thematic pillars of ISS, cross-cutting research themes are pursued through collaborative projects with ISS and external staff. The two currently active cross-cutting themes are Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP) and Land.
