On the evening of the 23rd of February Dr. Max Spoor, Associate Professor at ISS, and also Visiting Professor at the Barcelona Institute of International Relations (IBEI) organised a diner for alumni from ISS during one of his regular visits to IBEI. Although only a small group of the alumni in Spain responded, it was a very interesting meeting of alumni from various years. The most senior graduate was a Catalan from 1963/64 (EPP), who has been a full professor of Economics and Economic History at the Autonomous University of Barcelona for many years, while there were also two graduates (Mexican and English) from the year 2003 (PND and LRD). The latter two travelled down from Madrid, where they reside, to take part in the dinner. Of course latest ISS news was discussed, but much time was also spent on life histories, academic life (as all had chosen that path), film and music. The most important memories were those from the old Royal Palace, where students had also lived, and where parties were held, organised and financed by students themselves (with a contribution of 1 Guilder, the predecessor of the EURO). There were also memories of the solidarity that was always felt: when a student was down and lonely, he/she was always supported by other members of the cohorts of the specializations or then programs. That made ISS special for them.
