Montreal, Canada, 18 November 2011

An alumni dinner /meeting was held in Montreal, Canada on 18 November 2011. 14 alumni in total attended and a very nice time was had by all. The gathering was hosted by Professor Ben White and Dr. Kristin Cheney of ISS, who were in Montreal for the Graduate Student Fair, where quite a lot of interest was shown in ISS.

 

Windhoek, Namibia, 28 October 2011

An alumni  meeting was held in Windhoek, Namibia on 28 October 2011. The enthusiastic and lively dinner / meeting was hosted by professor Mohamed Salih and professor Wil Hout. The 13 alumni and the hosts had a great evening.

 

Tehran, Iran, 21 September 2011

11 ISS alumni participated in the alumni gathering in the Homa Hotel in Tehran. Apart from the host, Dr. Mahmood Messkoub, the Dutch ambassador in Iran, Mr. Cees Kole, alsoattended the great gathering.

Amman, Jordan, 8 September 2011

Maputo, Mozambique, 25 August 2011

On the 25th of August an alumni meeting was held in Maputo, Mozambique, hosted by professor Leo de Haan, Rector of ISS-EUR. During the meeting an interesting discussion unfolded on the role alumni can play for ISS-EUR, and what the ISS-EUR can do to inform alumni of ISS-EUR initiatives.

Alumni indicated that they would be willing to assist ISS-EUR in attracting students, and some ideas were discussed in how ISS-EUR could facilitate this.

But it was not only serious discussions that marked the evening: everyone enjoyed the superb seafood, drinks and especially the good company of former students and staff of ISS-EUR.

Mexico City, Mexico, 19 July 2011

Ten ISS alumni met in Mexico City with ISS' Dr Rosalba Icaza. The dinner went well. Lots of interest was shown to re-connect with ISS by alumni who are in quite important positions in the country.

Kyoto, Japan, 7 June 2011

An ISS alumni meeting was held in Kyoto, It was a "brilliant evening", hosted by Dr. Howard Nicholas.

Tokyo, Japan, 1 June 2011

After some trouble finding the right venue, ISS alumni finally enjoyed a wonderful evening in Tokyo where Dr. Howard Nicholas hosted an informal alumni gathering.

Hanoi, Vietnam, 31 March 2011

A huge alumni meeting was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, on 31 March 2011. The meeting was hosted by Dr Joop de Wit and was attended by approximately 60 people: ISS alumni, alumni of the MDE programme and some prospective ISS students. More pictures can be found here.

Bogota, Colombia, 6 March 2011

Over 40 attendants participated in the alumni meeting in Bogota, hosted by Dr. Georgina Gomez. Among those present the Dutch ambassador Marion Kappeyne van de Copello, former students, a considerable number of future ISS students and some alumni from IHS.

Washington, US, 6 March 2011

Hosted by professor Gerrie ter Haar, an alumni meeting was held in Washington on 6 March 2011. Almost 20 alumni, originally from a great variety of countries, had a great evening. Many ideas and suggestions for further gatherings were discussed.

Dhaka, Bangladesh, 23 February 2011

On 23 February 2011 some 30 people met at the ISS alumni meeting, held at the BRAC Centre Inn in Dhaka. In his introduction Michel Wesseling, host on behalf of ISS, discussed the situation of declining scholarships from the Dutch government and invited alumni to share ideas on other funding possibilities. He also asked alumni to continue to advise their colleagues to apply to study at ISS even if direct funding through NFP would no longer be a possibility.

Present at the meeting were 5 prospective students who were very encouraged by the positive memories of alumni about their study time at ISS and the great experience after that. 'I was already convinced that ISS will really be the place for me to study, but after this gathering I cannot wait any longer to join', said one of the applicants.

It was also a pleasure to welcome Mrs Henny de Vries of the Dutch Embassy in Dhaka, as well as three alumni from our Erasmus University sister institute IHS.

La Paz, Bolivia - 15 February 2011

ISS lecturers Lorenzo Pellegrini and Murat Arsel hosted an ISS alumni meeting in La Paz. We were happy to welcome the Fellowship Officer of the Netherlands Embassy as well.

Paramaribo, Surinam - 11 February 2011

ISS and FHR School of Governance held an informal alumni gathering at the Lim a Po Institute. At the meeting, ISS Professor Wil Hout gave a lecture on 'Goed Bestuur' en Ontwikkelingsbeleid.

Quito, Ecuador - 8 February 2011

ISS alumni had a great evening with Lorenzo Pellegrini and Murat Arsel in Quito. The Netherlands Embassy was represented while also alumni of IHS (like ISS part of Erasmus University Rotterdam) were attending.

New Delhi - 7 February 2011 and Mumbai - 10 February 2011

ISS participated in the delegation of Erasmus University that visited India in February 2011. ISS' Dr. Joop de Wit and lumni of ISS attended the Science Dinner in Delhi on 7 February several alumni also joined the gathering in Mumbai on 10 February.

Kathmandu, Nepal - January 2011

Over 30 Nepalese ISS alumni met on 7 January 2011 at the Summit Hotel in Kathmandu for an enthousiastic and lively meeting. Among the participants also Mr. Hans Heijdra, consul to the Netherlands in Nepal.

Michel Wesseling updated the participants on the current situation at the institute: the integration in the Erasmus University, our research and eduction programme, but also the financial situation as a result of the new governements proposed budget cuts.

The participating alumni decided to set up a Nepalese ISS Alumni Association to further strengthen the ties between them and their alma mater ISS.
