This is our last newsletter for 2012 - a year packed with activities at ISS. We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy holiday and a very prosperous 2013!
Alumni news & careers
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing away of 2 alumni:
Elizabeth (Beth) Gonzalez (MA Public Policy and Administration 1985-1986) died on 12 November in The Philippines.
On Monday 3 December 2012 ISS alumnus Branislav (Branko) Milinkovic (ILOD and DLSJ 1990-1992) from Serbia died in Brussels.
Our thoughts are with their families and friends.
Two ISS alumni receive awards
Currun Singh (MA Governance and Democracy 2010/2011) has been awarded the EADI (European Association of Development Institutes) prize for the best essay in Development Studies for 2012 with his essay Corsairs in the Crosshairs: Delinking piracy from terrorism in Somalia and implications for governance along the Horn of Africa
Koen Voorend (MA Economics of Development 2005/2006) has been awarded a fellowship from the Zeit foundation to pursue his doctoral studies at ISS. Koen is now a doctoral researcher at ISS and his research focuses on welfare regimes, social policy and migration in Central America.

Alumni online in 2013
ISS is working hard on a migration from the alumni database to the Erasmus Alumni Database. That will enable alumni to update their own details and find each other. We will keep you in the loop.

ISS Lustrum week
From 8-13 October, ISS celebrated its 60th anniversary with a week packed with activities and events including the ISS Alumni Day on Friday 12 October. Over 40 alumni attended this special day full of memories, nostalgia, updates and new contacts.
10 Years of the Prince Claus Chair
ISS and Utrecht University organized the 10th anniversary celebrations for the Prince Claus Chair (PCC) on Wednesday 28 November. The celebrations took place in Noordeinde Palace and were attended by Her Majesty the Queen and Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima who is Chair of the PCC Curatorium.
New executive course on Governance
The new Executive Course Governance, Democratization and Public Policy provides an overview of current realities and practices to enhance the quality of governance, in relation to socio-economic and political dynamics and the roles of local, national and global governance institutions.
Improve policy making and democratization processes in developing and transition countries through this new, intensive (5 weeks) post graduate course. More information through our website.
Graduation Day
Last Friday the MA students 2011/2012 had their Graduation Day. Wonderful outfits, happy faces and a big party afterwards.See pictures here.
Alumni meetings
Japan
10 Alumni met in Tokyo with professor Rolph van der Hoeven on 26 September. A nice representative group of students from ISS over the years. A great evening sharing memories, making new friends and it was considered as a great start for further contacts.
Bosnia and Herzegovina
A small meeting was held in Sarajevo on 26 October 2012. It was hosted by Dr. Rachel Kurian and Dr. Dubravka Zarkov with 3 alumi in attendance
Turkey
The Netherlands Alumni Association of Turkey (NAATR) celebrated its 6th anniversary on 30 November 2012 in Ankara with a forum for sharing study experiences in Holland. Several ISS graduates attended the event.
