Internationalization as quality feature at ISS
In December 2010, ISS received the internationalization as a distinctive quality feature accreditation from the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). |

An Exercise in WorldmakingFor the fifth year in a row, Scholas, the ISS student organization, has compiled a 'best' student essay book comprising of 14 essays written by the 2009/10 batch of MA student. The full text is available on the website. |
NIAS fellowship 2012 for Dubravka Zarkov
Dubravka Zarkov received NIAS (Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Science) fellowship for 2012. During the period of February - June, she will coordinate a combined Dutch/ex-Yugoslav research team, working on the research project 'The Real and the Imagined in the Contemporary Balkans', and also conduct her own research within the larger project. Dubravka is the second member of Staff Group 3 to become NIAS fellow. In 2010 it was Irene van Staveren. Dubravka Zarkov is Associate Professor in Gender, Development and Conflict Studies at ISS. |

New Deputy Rector Educational AffairsAs of 1 March 2011, Dr Jos Mooij will take up the 50% position as Deputy Rector Educational Affairs. Dr Mooij is Associate Professor in Public Policy and Management and will take up her new position for a period of 3 years. |

Passing away two ISS alumniISS is shocked by the news that two of its alumni passed away in December 2010. Randolph Anthony Piazza (Murph for those who knew him) suddenly passed away in Venezuela at the age of 36. Randolph was in the MA programme Rural Livelihoods and Global Change in 2004/2005. Cates Bool-Nunez from the Philippines also passed away unexpectedly. She was in the MA Human Resources and Development in 2005/2006. Our deepest condolences for their relatives and friends. ISS rector Leo de Haan has written a memoriam for both alumni. |

Brasilia, December 2010 A dinner for former ISS students was hosted by Dr. Lee Pegler, in Brasilia, Brasil on 14 December 2010. It was a most enjoyable meeting at a very pleasant restaurant and attended by five alumni, all of whom have interesting public sector or research jobs. |
