Time at ISS I enjoyed it enormously. The ISS provided the academic opportunities for study, but also an atmosphere of intense intellectual challenge and interaction which was conducive to and fostered deeper examination of a wide range of relevant development issues.
Favourite lectrurer(s) here was no favorite lecturer as such, the entire L&D team brought various strengths and value in a good mix of diversity in thought and approaches. I did enjoy the company of the staff group which I found intellectually enriching at a time when 'labour ruled'.
Most memorable moment There were many, but I would have to say when I successfully defended my thesis, was addressed as Dr. Moonilal for the first time (did not know who it was…) and presented with my PhD – in the presence of family members who had flown to the Hague for the occasion.
Contact with former classmates Yes, I am in touch with Freek Schiphorst, Lenneke Warnars and others occasionally.
Lasting impression of ISS The ISS is a unique institution of which the government and the people of the Netherlands must be proud. It has made a meaningful contribution to developing countries all over the world by providing academic and training opportunities for citizens of these countries, building capacity and assisting in their national development.
