My name is Sana Kapadia and I am from India. I was born and raised in Dubai, UAE.

Before coming to ISS, I was working as an equity research analyst at a regional investment bank in Dubai. All my work experience has been concentrated in the finance and consulting space, and also my undergraduate degree was in International Business.

I came to ISS, to do my Masters in Development Studies, as this is institution is world renowned for its multi-disciplinary approach,
exemplary faculty, vibrant student body and unique location in the Hague.

I'm a student in the Economics of Development programme and it has been a great experience so far. The classes are stimulating, the teaching staff is very knowledgable and helpful. In addition to our core classes, we also have the chance to do some broader theories on sociology and political science, while further helps to broaden ones horizons.

The nicest thing about ISS is the diversity and the amazing friendships you are able to make. You are encouraged to think critically and through interactive discussions and seminars on various research areas, one is able to really deepen their knowledge and experience.

My name is Zhuldyz Galiakpar and I am from Kazakhstan.

Before joining ISS I worked in the private sector for five years followed by a further two years in an international organization. Although my background is in finance I have also gained experience in social development in my last workplace. This increased my interest in this area and gave me an excellent introduction to some of the developmental problems of my country, Kazakhstan.

In order to further my studies in this area, I chose ISS because of its strong reputation as an institute in the field of development studies. It has high educational standards and has a wide multinational knowledge network. However ISS is not just a study place, it is also a place of convergence for people from different countries, different cultures and experiences where they can share and broaden each other’s horizons.

I am currently a student on the Economy of Development specialization, focusing on the economic and political problems that developing countries have to face and solve on their way to building prosperity. I find the specialization intensive but challenging and rewarding. It is also a great opportunity to develop and refine my views. The programme involves a research paper, which allows specific development problems to be explored in depth. My paper will focus on grain production in my country – looking at the problems and their causes, and making relevant policy recommendations.
