Research
Alonso Ramírez Cover is a professor of Development Theories, Political Philosophy and Epistemology of Political Science at the University of Costa Rica. Before coming to ISS, he also worked as a researcher for the Institute of Social Research at the University of Costa Rica and coordinated the Research Program on New Forms of Capital Accumulation, Distribution and Inequality in Central America there. His current research interests relate to recent changes in governance of development-conservation intervention mechanisms and their relation to green neoliberalism and capitalism, the political economy of tourism and institutional change in environmental governance. For his PhD he has been working on the role of these elements within a transfrontier conservation area between Costa Rica and Panama, yet his research interests are widely focused on Central America as a whole. He has also worked as a think tank consultant on other issues such as external trade policy, institutional change and democracy in Central America. Alonso Ramírez received his MA in Development Studies with emphasis in Development Research from ISS in late 2011 and continued doing his PhD studies there as well.
