The clue lays in the expression: BEST EFFORT!
Everybody understands that IT services cost money, time and other resources (tools, skills, etc...).
1.Our first priority is to keep ISS institutional IT infrastructure reliable and up and running. That means that offering support for private equipment comes in second.
2.Our knowledge and skills are not unlimited. We put a lot of effort in building sufficient knowledge and skills to support the ISS infrastructure, but when it comes to various requests on the wide range of subjects about private equipment, we can only help as far as our skills reach.
3.Thirdly, personnel costs money. We need to find balance between where to spend time and money in helping people with their personal problems and improving and maintaining the ISS corporate infrastructure.
ILIAD is mainly staffed by trainees from several IT schools. This works very well in both directions: these trainees profit from solving a large variety of problems, private and institutional. They learn to work with different techniques and they develop a service oriented attitude. On the other side, ISS plays a social role by offering these traineeship workplaces, but also profits by having low cost and subsided work force. That is why we succeed to offer such high level of support for your private IT problems.
Nevertheless, BEST EFFORT as way of supporting private IT problems remains the only way we can afford to offer this service. Consequences are that the user's private problems are not always handled in the same way. If our current batch of ILIAD trainees has an Apple guru among them, we will be able to offer Apple support. If the Apple-guy is not available, we might need to disappoint the customer. When ILIAD is busy with important other urgent work, we might have to disappoint you (temporarily) too. But in most cases, in fact in more than 95% of the cases, we are able to help and offer satisfactory service to our students and staff.
At your OWN RISK!
Be aware that letting ILIAD fixing your personal IT problems is completely under your responsibility and it is at your own risk. If ILIAD does not manage to fix the problem, or even messes it up more than before, you can't claim any compensation or extra work from our side. Look at our service as a friend's help. You won't claim damage or sue your friend if (s)he messes up your suit, would you?
