Capitalism and green economy at odds: interview with Bram Buscher

ISS lecturer Bram Buscher was interviewed on 'Hoe? Zo!', a programme on radio 5 on Wednesday 13 July.

According to Bram Büscher, capitalism and a global green economy are at odds with each other. Investing in clean technologies and nature reserves to solve major global problems appear to many an ideal solution. The Green Economy is 'the answer' to the credit crunch, global poverty and environmental issues, according to the UN. But many scientists that gathered at the Nature INC conference, held at the ISS from 30 June - 2 July, hold a different view. It is not primarily about technology, but an inherently political and social problem embedded in globally dominant ideas of human development and progress. They state that a more positive and realistic way forward necessarily has to start by addressing economic power structures and social inequalities.
