This co-edited monograph by ISS lecturer in law, human rights and development, Jeff Handmaker with colleagues Jackie Dugard and Jonathan Klaaren at the University of the Witswatersrand was published as a special issue of the ISI-rated South African Journal on Human Rights.

The publication consists of an introduction, six fully-fledged articles, four current developments or case notes and a number of related book reviews and incorporates both scholarly and practitioner-oriented perspectives.

The entire monograph / special issue is fully-available as an open access publication, thanks to an agreement between the publishers (Juta) and the Editorial Board of the South African Journal on Human Rights.
