'Social Protection in International Development'
Special issue of Canadian Journal of Development Studies edited by ex-ISS lecturer Arjan de Haan
Canadian Journal of Development Studies 32, 4 - Special Issue on Social Protection in International Development
In his editorial, Arjan de Haan reflects on the current state of the debate on social protection, and introduces the contributions to this special issue.
The papers in this special issue of CJDS provide reflections upon the current debate on social protection.
Following the 1997 East Asia financial crisis, social protection became a central feature of international development research and debate, and the 2008 global financial crisis reinvigorated this. The 2010 European report on development is among the more recent ‘flagship’ reports devoted to the subject (EUI 2010), and most of the papers in this special issue have grown out of the preparatory work for this report.
The papers reflect a diversity in terms of views and perspectives on the social protection debate.
