Abstract
Academic interest in Turkish environmental politics has been growing slowly but steadily. This growth is partly underwritten by the increasing scope and magnitude of environmental problems facing Turkey. As the evidence of environmental degradation resulting from Turkey's longstanding ambition for rapid and industrial-led economic growth becomes more obvious, more scholars are analyzing and evaluating the environmental tolls of socio-economic development.
Yet despite its recent and continuing growth, scholarship on the environment in Turkey remains underdeveloped. This research note seeks answers to this paradoxical absence and evaluates the potential contribution of environmental scholarship to the larger Turkish studies community.
