His lecture is entitled: Deprivation by Abuse of Power
Huge inequalities of personal means to fend for one's basic human needs are the core cause of insecurity, hunger and preventable illness. Human development requires countering the abuse of power by the very powerful. This applies to economics, politics and other fields. Well-regulated social market economics, strong institutions for the rule of law, and participatory democracy are required at the local, national and international level. Criminal behavior, the most severe abuse of power, is a major cause of human deprivation. Reducing crime and other forms of abuse of power need more attention in development policy.
