Sudden death of alumnus Branislav (Branko) Milinkovic

On Monday 3 December 2012 ISS alumnus Branislav (Branko) Milinkovic from Serbia died in Brussels.

Branko was 52 years old. As a lawyer and journalist he came to study at the ISS between 1990 and 1992. He obtained a diploma in International Law and Organization for Development and a certificate in Development, Law and Social Justice from the ISS. After the end of the Milosevic regime, in 2000 Branko became Serbia’s ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), in Vienna. As of 2004 he served as Serbia’s special representative, and more recently as Serbia’s Ambassador, with NATO. Branko was married to Sanja, who is a diplomat based in Vienna, and also leaves behind his son Miroslav. According to ISS Professor Karin Arts, Branko had a remarkable record in advocating human rights, international law and anti-war positions and an unusual talent to span the spheres of academics, foreign affairs practitioners, media professionals and activists. She will also remember him for his warm personality and his great sense of humour. The ISS community sends its heartfelt condolences to Branko’s family, friends and colleagues.
