Passing away of Dr Aart van de Laar

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of Dr Aart van de Laar

He worked at ISS as an Associate Professor in Development Economics until his retirement in 2004. Dr Aart van derLaar dedicated most of his long academic career at ISS to the field of rural development policy. He taught and supervised many students in the Rural Policy and Planning (RPP) post-graduate Diploma programme and the Agricultural and Rural Development (ARD) Masters' Specialization, both predecessors of the current Agrarian and Environmental Studies (AES) Major in the Master of Development Studies at ISS. He has also been involved in a large number of advisory services projects and in tailor-made courses such as for the Bangladesh Water Development Board.

He will be remembered and missed by many former students and colleagues.
