Pieter Kooijmans passed away

Former Chair of ISS Board of Trustees

We are sad that our former member and Chair of the Board of Trustees (later Board of Supervisors), professor Pieter Kooijmans, has passed away this week.

We are grateful that ISS has benefitted from his knowledge and experience in the time he was in the Board, from 1979 to 1993.                      

Pieter Kooijmans (1933 - 2013) was an eminent Dutch jurist, politician and diplomat. He has held different political positions (eg Minister of Foreign Affairs) while he worked for the UN as well. In 1997 he joined the International Court of Justice as the first judge from The Netherlands.
