Description
Debate with Professor Jan Pronk
'No heath, no country? Is health a precondition for rehabilitation for Southern Sudan?'
About the debate
No one will deny the need for investing in the reconstruction of South Sudan. But what are the priorities,
where and how to start in a country destroyed by war?
AMREF investment in healthcare is based on the belief that every person is entitled to healthcare. But is good health a real condition for rehabilitation? How can a healthcare system function when security issues maintain at stake and other global goods such as education are lacking?
The speakers
Jan Pronk – Former Special Representative Secretary General of the United Nations in Sudan, Professor Emeritus ISS.
Michiel Bierkens – Head of Horn of Africa at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands
Jeroen de Lange – Ex member of the Dutch parliament
Peter Ngatia – Director Capacity Building, AMREF Head Quarters
Florence Andrew – Southern Sudanese Women Association in the Netherlands
