Abstract:
Wage Indicator gathers real wage and labour conditions data directly at the source, i.e. from employees (formal or informal), and small entrepreneurs (formal or informal). It does this through online and offline surveys, since 2001. The real wage information volunteered by respondents is comparable worldwide. Wage Indicator thus can answer questions related to real wages, and real working conditions on the basis of its scientific surveys.
In addition it collects and disseminates through its 70 national websites information on contract wages, collective agreements, minimum wages and labour law. This extension of its operations has been prompted by the response from its web users. From this it is clear that working people everywhere are in need of information relating to
- at least - the minimum wages they are entitled to and their basic labour rights, such as working hours and maternity leave.
Today, operating in almost 70 countries, Wage Indicator collects, and shares wages online, as well as compares wages between countries. It is becoming a highly automated, interlinked global community. Its growing database today makes it possible to provide comparative, conclusive information about, for example, what a teacher earns in wages (and benefits) in Colombia, South Africa, Brazil, and India. For migration-prone occupations such as nurses, and construction workers, the relevance of its international comparative dimension is obvious.
End of 2012 even collective agreements will be comparable.
