The politics of social policy for social justice in the context of development
My talk will explore current thinking on social policy from a gender perspective and set this in the context of the impact of the 2008 crisis. It will draw on a review of efforts to promote social justice and gender equality in conflict-affected and fragile states and look at what interventions are likely to be effective in the current climate. I will examine how the concepts of political settlement, legitimacy, accountability, responsiveness and capacity could be reconsidered to provide a framework for building political environments conducive to social justice.
