The conference explores the role of social movements in promoting gender equality, focusing on the key changes that social movements have brought into the life of women at the grassroots level. The speakers, Dr. Amrita Chhachhi and Dr. Rosalba Icaza, professors of ISS, will approach the paradoxes of those movements from a critical perspective (the gender binary approach, targeting women as victims, men as perpetrators, neglecting other genders etc.) Sara Salem, an ISS. alumni, will tell the participants her personal story, relating it to the revolution in Egypt and the role of feminist activists in bringing social change in the post-Arab Spring Egyptian society
The second part of the programs includes four interactive on broader contemporary gender issues.
