Introduction
Nearly all of the Millennium Development Goals that were adopted by the United Nations at the beginning of the century specified end dates in 2015. Various actors, including in the UN system, have already started contemplating what the post-MDG development agenda should look like.
The UN System Task Team on the post-2015 agenda has issued recently its report ‘Realizing the Future we want’ and at Rio plus 20 in June an agreement was reached to develop a set of ‘ Sustainable Development Goals’.
The ISS Lustrum 2012 is therefore an ideal venue to have an in-depth discussion on the future development agenda. The forum will link to an earlier report of the Dutch Advisory Council on International Affairs,[1] and to discussions in the UN. The UN Secretary General has set up on 30 July a High-Level Panel on the Post 2015 Development Agenda.
Topic
This discussion will be based on an analysis of the shortcomings of the MDG-agenda, and will focus on the issues and approaches that will need to be incorporated into the post-MDG agenda.
Panelists
The forum will bring together three eminent participants and a set of high-ranking ISS alumni (participation to be confirmed):
