Educational Approach

ISS has a stimulating learning environment in a multicultural community of students and teachers.

  • Our students come from many different cultures and countries around the world, and typically have substantial relevant experience.
  • The Institute’s staff are drawn from around 30 countries from all over the world and are actively involved in research, institutional capacity building and advisory services.
  • Most teaching takes place in small groups (10-30 students), student/staff ratio is 13/1.

The multicultural community at ISS offers an excellent learning environment both inside and outside the classroom, in which students can gain from each other’s diverse experience. As a student at ISS, you will find that no single national perspective or ideology dominates and that you will be a part of a very special international community.

I am Yaekob Mekuria from Ethiopia.
My educational experience so far has focused on relevant and challenging theories. Instructors are skilled in combining theoretical insight with practical application in their teaching to better prepare me for future career. They are acting as equals with students both in classroom and outside in social networks in providing guidance and valuable feedback. I have benefited working in teams with other students who have rich and varied backgrounds for many of them are working professionals. Organization of the study curriculum is also designed to meet the current global scientific and social demands in the real situation.
