Funding

ISS receives a majority of students on a partial or full scholarship programme. While in the past many of our students have enjoyed their studies on a Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) fellowship, there is an increasing group who apply for other scholarships. ISS has therefore created a fellowship database to help you find scholarships you are eligible for.

If you have applied for a Diploma course but your application for financial assistance has not been completed, your application will automatically be deferred to the next year. If you have applied for the MA programme, you will need to request a deferral through an email to the admission office.

The ISS has established two funds to support students without any other form of scholarship. Both funds are open to Dutch as well as international students who wish to enroll in the MA in Development Studies.

ISS Scholarship Fund for Excellent Students

A total of 20 scholarships, each worth 40% of the tuition fee (for the MA 2013-2014: €5400), are available for excellent students. The following candidates can apply:

  • People with relevant work experience, a degree in one of the social sciences (upper second or first class) and a strong motivation to study at ISS, or
  • Recent graduates with a first class degree in one of the social sciences and a strong motivation to study at ISS.

Applicants should send in their request to the ISS student office before 15 May 2013. Requests should include detailed financial information (including supporting bank statements) to prove your ability to support yourself for the remaining tuition fee, the living expenses and health insurance The decision will be taken in early June. Students selected for the scholarship bursaries will be informed by the student office.

ISS Hardship Fund

Students who do not comply with the criteria for the scholarship fund for excellent students but do not have sufficient means to pay the entire tuition fee can apply to the ISS Hardship Fund. This fund can provide a fee discount of up to 30% of the tuition fee (for the MA 2013-2014: €4050).

Applicants should send in their requests to the ISS student office before 15 June 2013. Requests should include detailed financial information (including supporting bank statements) to prove your ability to support yourself for the remaining tuition fee, the living expenses and health insurance

The decision will be taken in early July. Students selected for the scholarship bursaries will be informed by the student office.

EU citizen students

Students with European Union Citizenship should be aware that the subsidies that the Dutch Government ( IB-Group) provides for a study at a regular Dutch university do not apply to the study programmes at ISS, although the ISS MA programme is fully accredited. The ISS Scholarship Fund for Excellent Students and the ISS Hardship Fund are open for all students.
