ISS holder of first ever 'orange carpet' award

In 2009 ISS won the very first Dutch Oranje Loper (orange carpet) award for best practices in internationalization for Dutch Higher Education institutes.

Orange carpet awardThe award was granted for ISS's special programme aimed at helping students feel at home in the Netherlands.

In his five minute presentation, Welfare Officer Martin Blok described some of the extracurricular activities ISS offers its students:

  • International Day
  • International Food Fair
  • Dutch Evening
  • Movie Festival
  • Dance and yoga workshops, exhibitions
  • Theatre performances and the mixed student-staff ISS choir
  • World School

In its press release announcing ISS' win, Nuffic made it clear that ISS was chosen because of the extensive integration programme we offer our students with emphasis on social integration and cultural activities.

ISS students are not only introduced to Dutch society but also with each others' culturs and backgrounds. Departure at the end of their study period also receives attention as experience has shown that a return to their own country causes a reverse culture shock.
