Greetings from the Journal of Peasant Studies (JPS)!

2010 Impact Factor: 1.612

Since January 2009, JPS has a new set of editors, as well as a new editorial orientation and policy which I think will be of interest to you as a researcher:

[The Journal] provokes and promotes critical thinking about social structures, institutions, actors and processes of change in and in relation to the rural world. It encourages inquiry into how agrarian power relations between classes and other social groups are created, understood, contested and transformed. The Journal pays special attention to questions of ‘agency' of marginalized groups in agrarian societies, particularly their autonomy and capacity to interpret – and change – their conditions.

We hope that JPS today will continue to be analytically groundbreaking and politically relevant. We also hope that it will continue to inspire those concerned about changing the conditions of the rural world.

We have recently published many exciting and cutting-edge articles on global burning agrarian issues and we would advise you to take a look at these by visiting www.tandfonline.com/jps. In addition, we have published issues devoted to topics such as Biofuels (guest edited by Philip McMichael and Ian Scoones) and New Frontiers of Land Control (guest edited by Nancy Peluso and Christian Lund). We have a number of taster articles which are available as a free download for a limited time so please do take advantage of this complimentary access. JPS articles have become extremely useful and popular to scholars, policy practitioners and activists worldwide and the Journal actively contributes to setting research agendas so find out what you’ve been missing.

We will be publishing two special issues in 2012 which you can’t afford to miss ‘Green grabs: a new way of appropriating nature’ guest edited by James Fairhead, Melissa Leach and Ian Scoones, and ‘The political economy of global land grabbing’ guest edited by Ben White, Wendy Wolford and Ruth Hall.

So that you can rediscover JPS and stay at the cutting edge of agrarian and rural politics research we are happy to let you know that Routledge have a special offer of radically reduced personal subscription rate at only US$50/year for a print subscription which is inclusive of postage (regular subscription rate of $135/year). This works out at only $10 for each issue.

This is also a nice gift to your friends or colleagues who are based in developing countries who might not be able to afford even the radically reduced personal subscription rate.

All 2012 personal subscriptions can be renewed beyond 2012 for the same rate. (The price is subject to change should the journal increase in issues.)

In order to take advantage of this offer, please contact Routledge Customer Services by emailing: subscriptions@remove-this.tandf.co.uk or telephoning +44 (0)20 7017 5544 (depending on your preference). Simply advise them of this offer and your discount will be automatically applied.

We look forward to welcoming you as a JPS reader in 2012 – and beyond.

Yours Sincerely,

Saturnino (‘Jun’) M. Borras Jr.
