About the Colloquium series

2012 is a crucial year to critically rethink and engage with the green economy. Several major conferences and initiatives are planned that take the green economy as their starting point for action and deliberation. Most prominent amongst these is the 2012 Earth Summit, or ‘Rio+20’, which will take place from 20 – 22 June in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The discourse to the run-up of the conference already signals that critical reflections on the green economy, let alone meaningful change in terms of the prevailing political-economic power relations, are not going to be on the agenda.

To address this aspect of the green economy, the Institute of Social Studies, the Society for International Development, and HIVOS decided to jointly organise a colloquium series during 2012, consisting of three regular colloquia (in March, June and September), and a conference (19 & 20 November).

The colloquia are meant for everyone interested in critically debating the concept and practices of the green economy, and are open to academics, policy-makers and staff from NGOs and companies.

First colloquium: 23 March 2012

Second colloquium: 12 June 2012

Third colloquium: 2 October 2012

Fourth colloquium: 19 and 20 November 2012
