Break-out session 1: Standards & Poor
Michael Joseph (Vodafone, M-Pesa, World Bank), who will kick off this session, is generally renowned for the success of M-Pesa, the mobile payment system in Kenya. In just a few years they reached the bottom of the pyramid by offering low-cost financial services to everyone with a mobile phone.
The panel will discuss how similar large-scale, standards-based innovations are needed to provide the poor with access to (good-quality) healthcare. Standards are necessary both with respect to medical quality and to efficient, low-cost and transparent health insurance financing and administration.
