ISS offers various joint programmes with academic partners all over the world.

In some programmes students take part of the programme elsewhere and part of the programme at ISS in The Hague. In other programmes ISS staff travel to the partner institute to contribute to teaching.

Erasmus Mundus Master Programme in Public Policy

This is a 2-year-long international joint degree Masters programme in Public Policy. The first year is spent either at ISS or at the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest and the second year either at the University of York or the Institute on International Relations in Barcelona (IBEI). The Mundus MAPP is funded by the European Commission which also provides scholarships for this programme.

Transatlantic ATLANTIS programme

A new two year Joint Programme with the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, USA and the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin, Germany.

The programme is supported by the EU Commission and the US Department of Education. Students spend their first two semesters (first academic year) at the Maxwell School in Syracuse before joining the Hertie School for their 3rd and the International Institute of Social Studies for their 4th semester (second academic year).

Master in Public Administration with the FHR Lim A Po Institute in Surinam

Partnership with FHR Lim A Po Institute for Social Studies in Suriname

ISS entered in collaboration with the FHR Lim A Po Institute for Social Studies in 2003 and started with a Diploma Programme in International Relations. This programme run for two consecutive years in 2003 and 2004.

The successful Diploma programme was further elaborated into a Master in Public Administration (MPA). The MPA programme is developed for Surinam mid-career professionals, it is a part time programme spread over 1,5 years. The first group (MPA1) started in 2005, the latest group (MPA5)started in December 2010.

In 2010 a new Diploma Programme started on International and Comparative Law for which ISS professor Karin Arts is the External Examiner.

Double Degree Programme with the University of Indonesia

ISS offers a two year double degree programme with the University of Indonesia. Students take their first year at the Faculty of Economics at the UI in Depok and the second year at ISS.

Double Degree with Ritsumeikan University in Japan

ISS and Ritsumeikan University offer their students the opportunity to study half a year (starting in September) at the other university to obtain a double degree in Development Studies/International Relations. Master of Development Economics in Ho Chi Minh City

ISS and the University of Economics offer a two-year full time MA degree in Development Economics (MDE).

The MDE programme is taught by visiting lecturers from the Netherlands and Vietnamese university lecturers.

Partnership with the National Economics University in Hanoi

MA in Development Economics at the National Economics University in Hanoi and at the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

ISS and the National Economics University and the University of Economics offer a two-year MA degree in Development Economics. The MDE programme is taught by Vietnamese university lecturers and visiting lecturers from the Netherlands.

Post Graduate Diploma in Poverty Analysis

The Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Poverty Analysis is a part-time one year programme in Tanzania delivered through distance learning coupled with short term intensive training workshops.

The programme is jointly delivered and managed by three institutions, the Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) and Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA) in partnership with the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) where ISS is the Postgraduate Diploma awarding institution.
