ICAS Fellowships for Activists
Considering the critical role played by non-academic development practitioners and activists in actual development processes, it is important to provide ‘spaces’ for non-academic professionals to reflect upon and process their field experience, and share, write and publish these insights.
Depending on available funds, fellowships will be awarded to non-academic development practitioners on a regular basis. The length of this fellowship will be short: 1-2 months. The main reason for this is that we want to encourage key players in civil society and social movement organizations and nongovernmental donor organizations to make use of these fellowships – and usually, most of them cannot afford to leave their work for long periods of time.
It is a very modest grant, with each fellowship covering only international travel, food and accommodation expenses. Moreover, and ideally, the three fellows should be in residence at an ICAS coordinating hub at the same time, and should ideally come from three different regions of the world to allow for rich sharing of experiences during their fellowship. The actual hosting can be in Africa, Latin America, North America, Asia, or Europe/The Hague, as long as the institution associated with ICAS agrees to host.
