Cécile Famerée
Cécile Famerée is a PhD student at the Leiden Institute of Areas Studies, of Leiden University. She holds a Master in Governance and Development from the University of Antwerp. Before beginning her PhD, she worked during 8 years in the development cooperation sector mainly in Latin America. She has done fieldwork in Nicaragua and Peru. She is the co-author of “Political arenas around access: a diagnosis of property rights practices in the Nicaraguan interior” (IOB Discussion Papers 2006.08; University of Antwerp). In Peru, her research focuses on land acquisitions from Chinese and Peruvian firms in the mining and biofuel sectors. Her research interests deal with issues of popular resistance in cases of large scale land acquisitions and credibility of property rights.
