Madeleine Fairbairn
Madeleine Fairbairn is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her dissertation research focuses on increasing global capital flows into farmland, particularly through predominantly private, institutional investment in agriculture. It also explores how states are negotiating the unique challenges posed by this foreign investment, working to balance the imperative to foster capital accumulation with the need to maintain their own legitimacy. Her dissertation research focuses primarily on farmland investment in Brazil, but she has also done work on the intersection between foreign land deals and domestic class structure in Mozambique.
