Teo Ballvé

Teo BallveTeo Ballvé is undertaking his doctoral studies in the geography department at the University of California, Berkeley.

His research focuses on illicit economies of violence in Urabá, a war-torn frontier region of northwest Colombia.

Combining investigative journalism and ethnography, his work traces the political-economic and ecological contours of the illegal drug trade, including its entry into putatively legal industries and political structures. The role and strategies of campesinos in fighting against—and building radical alternatives to—these violent economies also forms a central aspect of his research.

Much of his work is available on his personal website: http://teoballve.com/
