Tom Lavers
Tom Lavers is a PhD candidate in International Development at the University of Bath. His PhD research examines the politics of social policy in Ethiopia, in particular focusing on the role of land tenure in the promotion of accumulation, equality and individual security as Ethiopia attempts to make the transition from a predominately rural, agrarian economy to an urban, industrial one. The research employs a case-based methodology, situating micro level case studies within analysis of the political economy of macro- and meso-level processes related to the commercialisation of agriculture and food security. In addition to the land grab, his research interests include: social policy and development, social protection, food security, structural change and inequality.
