PhD Academic requirements

All applicants to the ISS PhD programme must fulfill the following academic requirements.

Academic background

Masters degree in one of the social sciences - you must must have obtained at least ‘very good’, class 2.1, a GPA of 3.00 or equivalent, but preferably a first class degree, excellent or GPA of 3.50.Applicants are required to have an academic Master degree, a Masters degree from a university for professional education is not accepted.
Applicants  should have a degree from a recognized university as registered in the world higher education database.

Knowledge of English

IELTS: 7.0 overall for the Academic Test
TOEFL PBT: 600
TOEFL CBT: 250
TOEFL IBT: 100
ISS does not require a language certificate from native English speakers from the following countries:
Australia, Botswana, Canada, Cameroon (English-speaking region), Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, India, Ireland, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda (English-speaking region), South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
