PhD Finance and Funding

The following fees and costs apply to all PhD researchers:

Registration fee

€115

To be paid on registration.
Tuition fee€32,000

To be paid over 4 years (€8,000 per year)

The fee is the same for EU and non-EU candidates.
PhD applicants who will be relying on their own funding, may apply for a reduction or waiver of the PhD tuition fee. Please contact admission@iss.nl

Health insurance

approx. €2,000 for four years

Health insurance premium paid to insurance company selected by ISS for PhD researchers. To be paid upon receipt of an invoice from ISS.
Visa/work permit

€1,000

To be paid for him/her self plus for family members accompanying the researcher to the Netherlands. To be paid upon receipt of an invoice from ISS.
Cost of living in the Netherlands (for 36 months)€44,100

Before starting the PhD trajectory, all PhD researchers must show that they have sufficient funds to pay for the costs of the PhD programme and proof of availability of funds to acquire a Dutch residence permit.

Fieldwork (12 months)€13,650Approximately €1,138 per month (1 year).
Other costsp.m.Field research costs, air fares to and from the Netherlands and study materials. Part of these costs can be refunded by ISS based on the advice of the research supervisors.
