This second PhD Alumni Association webinar brings together two presenters to talk about policy responses to environmental vulnerability, risk and resilience.
They will consider the critical role of spatial planning to reduce flood risk in Brazil and the role of claims-making on local and national government in support of environmental rights and community resource management in India.
Speakers
- Dr Marina Batalini de Macedo (School of Public Heath, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil) - 'Trade-offs between flood risk and sanitation and their impact on health and well-being of population'
- Dr Sailaja Nandigama (ISS graduate 2009 BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, Rajasthan, India) - 'Responsibilization in natural resource governance: Does responsibilization lead to better forest management under FRA?'
Moderator and discussants
The session will be moderated by PhD alumna Dr Sarah Gammage (graduated 2003).
Professor Huub Savenije and Dr Sunil Tankha will provide comments and feedback.
PhD alumnus, Dr Mathew Kurian (graduated 2003) will briefly introduce Dr Marina Batalini de Macedo. Mathew leads the Belmont Forum project for which Brazil is a partner via the research that Marina is undertaking at University of Sao Paulo.
