ISS' programme ranked 11th worldwide and 1st in the EU

The International Institute of Social Studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam remains amongst the top-ranked globally and in the EU for its Development Studies Masters programme.

In the 2022 QS World University Rankings by subject, the Development Studies programmes at the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam is now ranked 11th in the world. The programme is with the top 10% globally, amongst the likes of elite programmes at the Universities of Sussex and Oxford (United Kingdom), and Harvard University (USA).

The Development Studies programme ranks first in the Netherlands and the European Union for a second year in a row. The programme has seen steady growth within the QS World University Rankings in recent years. The largest leap in progress was achieved in 2020, going from the 32nd position to 12th.

How is the ranking determined?

Each year the QS Rankings compares and contrasts universities per subject areas based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact through citations. ISS ranks highly in citations per paper and employee reputation.

As part of Erasmus University Rotterdam, ISS remains internationally recognized in the subject areas of Development Studies and Social Sciences and Management.
