28 January marks the start of Poetry week 2021. Until 3 February several events will be held (virtually) across The Netherlands and Flanders to keep the art of poetry alive, this year under the overarching theme 'together.'

Most events during Poetry Week are in Dutch, but English speakers are invited to join 'Poetry on Impact' on Saturday the 30th of January, when British and Ugandan poet and performer Vanessa Kisuule will be their guest. Get your ticket here or learn more here.

You can also celebrate Poetry week by borrowing one of the many titles of the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet. You can choose the ISS Library as your pickup location. Check out the classics such as Sylvia Plath or Edgar Allan Poe, or get to know the Netherlands and Flanders better by reading Dutch poetry in English. Some interesting titles in our collection are Landscape with rowers : poetry from the Netherlands100 Dutch-language poems : from the medieval period to the present day, and Poems of Guido Gezelle: a bilingual anthology.

Another great source for poetry by Dutch artists is Poetry International's website. Scroll down to 'Explore Dutch Poetry' or visit their special archive with poetry from The Netherlands.

You can find more information on the Poetry week and its events at www.poezieweek.com (in Dutch).
