Emissions caused by trade are more pronounced in developed countries than they are in developing countries.Â
This is one of the findings of an analysis of 88 empirical studies.
In their article, Sylvanus Kwaku Afesorgbor and Binyam Afewerk Demena find that trade clearly contributes to environmental emissions.
However, they note that studies into how trade affects emissions has produced heterogenous results. The authors carried out an analysis of 88 studies into the impact of trade on environmental emissions with the aim of understanding why this should be.
They conclude that the different results are due to the diverse criteria used in the studies to measure the pollutants.
