We are proud to announce the appointment of Silvia Hernández as Chief of Staff for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
ECLAC, also known as CEPAL, is a regional commission of the United Nations (UN) with its headquarters in Santiago, Chile. The commission has been a prominent think-tank focused on economic development across Latin America and the Caribbean. Hernández started her appointment as Chief of Staff this month.
Hernández is originally from Costa Rica. She graduated from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in 2004, majoring in the Economics of Development programme. She is a prominent economist and politician in Costa Rica. From 2012-2014, she worked as Deputy Minister of National Planning and Economic Policy for former president Laura Chinchilla. She was also president of the Tax Affairs Commission and a regional member of the Science, Technology and Education and OECD Special Commissions.
