The UN mission in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been criticized for failing to stop decades of fighting in the country. However, Delphin Ntonyoma argues that the DRC government is also responsible.
In this article originally published in The Conversation and picked up by other media outlets, Ntanyoma argues that the UN mission is being blamed for what should be the DRC government’s responsibility, namely de-escalating violence in the country’s eastern region and finding long-term solutions to peace.
His research into the situation in the DRC suggests that during the 22 years that the UN stabilization mission has been active in the country (MONUSCO), political and military elites have focused on their own interests to the detriment of the vast majority of the population.
