Jointly organized by the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) and the Netherlands International Cooperation Collection (NICC), this event will explore the vital roles that young people play – and have played – in addressing global challenges, from climate action and protection of ecosystems to international cooperation around child rights.

From civil rights to climate action, the role of youth in international cooperation is a story worth discovering.

The event hopes that participants will join forces to develop a new NICC-timeline on ‘roles of youth in international solidarity and cooperation’ and to complement existing timelines by adding youth related information.

The new Youth timeline intends to describe and analyse the various roles of young people, e.g. as target group, as students, as protesters, as activists, as fair and/or equal trade promoters, as volunteers or young experts working in poor countries in the Global South, as youth representatives in global summits and other fora, as young journalists, municipal employees, labour union members, members of church based groups, political party members, young diaspora members; etc) as well as Dutch international solidarity and cooperation policies regarding children and youth – in the past and the present.
