In January, Mr Burgon and Mr Hussain co-launched a series of evidence panels in parliament for MPs and Lords to hear evidence of Israeli War Crimes in Gaza from a range of legal experts and NGOs.
The situation in Palestine has been before the International Criminal Court, in different stages of proceedings, for over two decades. After a lengthy preliminary examination, the Former Prosecutor announced the opening of the investigation on 3 March 2021.
On 24 April 2024, a group of 12 Republican US senators sent a letter to ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan threatening repercussions if the court issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials.
On 20 May 2024, the current Prosecutor announced that he applied for arrest warrants against perpetrators of alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, including Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant.
