On 29 May 2025, at the request by Chile and Colombia, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) issued an Advisory Opinion on The Climate Emergency and Human Rights.
In parallel, both countries actively participated in the Advisory Opinion requested to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by the United Nations General Assembly on The Obligations of States in respect of climate change. The ICJ issued its Advisory Opinion on 23 July 2025.

This event aims to discuss the content and scope of both Advisory Opinions, to determine the prospective grounds of interaction and to explore the scope of this international judicial dynamic regarding the possibility of effectively influencing the conduct of states to protect the climate system and the environment.
It will rely on experts from Chile, Colombia and the Netherlands to address these issues, based on both their academic trajectory and their professional experience in international law.
