About this event

Join us for the second volume of Resistance Radio, a listening session and panel. This edition asks a simple but urgent question: what does it mean to live in defense of our planet and who is already doing that work?

Across the world, land, food and ecosystems are under pressure and shaped by systems that extract, displace and prioritize profit over life. And yet, communities continue to resist, protect and rebuild. This evening brings those struggles into focus.

A diverse panel of scholars will share songs that speak to resistance, care and possibility within agrarian struggles, land rights and environmental justice. Through their selections, they reflect on how communities are defending ecosystems, pushing back against extractive power and reimagining how we live with the natural world.

Rather than a conventional panel discussion, music takes centre stage. Together, we move through sound, across time and place, listening closely to song excerpts that carry histories of struggle and joy, loss and survival, memory and imagination. Each speaker reflects their chosen track and its resonance within their work, opening space for collective listening and deeper conversation.

At its core, this edition of Resistance Radio is about refusing the idea that land, food and life itself are disposable. It traces how resistance takes shape in fields, in movements, in everyday acts of care and what it means to imagine futures that are not built on extraction.
