The Vagina Monologues was written by Eve Ensler and first performed in 1996. Inspired by and based on hundreds of interviews conducted with women from across the globe, the play explores consensual and nonconsensual sexual experiences, body image, direct and indirect encounters with reproduction and sex work through the eyes of different women.
These stories include a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a Vagina Workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who 'liked to look at it'.
Here at ISS we bring together a global cast of talented female students representing our rich community.
Join us as we celebrate women's relationships with their vaginas ranging from uplifting to heartbreaking and everything in between.
