For decades, authors have warned that the pursuit of economic growth is not the right compass. Indeed the current economic system has led to ecological and social crises. Rutger Hoekstra will dive into the latest scientific and institutional developments in the “Beyond-Growth” space and what that means for an economy that prioritizes Wellbeing, Inclusion and Sustainability (WISE).

Rutger Hoekstra is an associate professor at the Institute of Environmental Sciences of Leiden University. He leads the European WISE Horizons project he is also WP leader within the MERGE project and member of the UN’ Expert Group on Measuring Wellbeing (EGMW). He is the author of Replacing GDP by 2030 which was published by Cambridge University Press in 2019. He has worked with/for the United Nations, World Bank, European Commission, OECD, European Central Bank, KPMG, Statistics Netherlands and many other organizations.
