Call for presentations at the The Hague Humanitarian Studies Centre’s One-Day Conference looking at how global political currents affect the work of humanitarian actors and researchers.
Global political currents are buffeting humanitarian action and humanitarian studies in multiple contexts across the world, with decisions taken in places like Washington severely affecting everyday humanitarian actors.
For humanitarian actors and researchers, these new times require adapting, reworking and remixing of humanitarian activities to ensure adherence to principles like ‘do no harm’, and continuing to work in vulnerable and fragile places. A major concern is the status of respecting and upholding International Humanitarian Law, including the protection of medical and humanitarian workers.
Call for presentations
The Hague Humanitarian Studies Centre invites scholars and practitioners across the broadest spectrum of humanitarian studies to submit their abstracts for 15-minute presentation slots across the day.
Presentations can be about ongoing, recently finished or in-preparation projects; and presenters may use their slot in any format they choose. This includes interactive discussions, video screenings or more traditional presentations.
Important dates
Deadline for submissions - Please submit your abstract by 10 July to humanitarianstudiescentre@iss.nl
Conference date - 12 September 2025
