The International Institute of Social Studies is sad to share the passing of former ISS Dean of Studies Sipko de Boer at the age of 91.
Sipko de Boer was Dean of Studies at ISS in the early 1980s and from 1996 to 1999. He also played numerous other important roles, including leading the 1993-4 review of the institute's organizational structure and systems, which led to major reforms.
Former colleagues described him as a devoted and caring teacher, informed by his earlier years living in Hong Kong, South India and Indonesia. He was an enthusiastic, charming, modest and constructive colleague and a warm and friendly person.
The thoughts of the whole ISS community are with his wife, children and other family and friends.
